Samir Nasri hopes to earn himself a place in France's World Cup squad by repeating his Capital One Cup final heroics for the rest of the season.
The attacking midfielder, who was named man of the match after
scoring in Manchester City's Capital One Cup success against Sunderland,
has been left out of France's squad for this week's friendly with
Holland, casting doubt over his chances of making Les Bleus' squad for
this summer's World Cup finals.Nasri, who only recently returned to action after a month out with a knee injury, is keen to let his football do his talking as he looks to win his place back in Didier Deschamps' plans.
"The best response is on the pitch," Nasri told L'Equipe. "It's up to me to give him headaches by repeating this kind of performance."
The former Arsenal and Marseille man found himself frozen out of Deschamps' plans for a period after being banned for three games following a clash with a journalist during Euro 2012 and Nasri feels he is unfairly treated in his homeland.
"I reacted badly, of course," added Nasri. "But I was provoked. I responded. I didn't kill anyone - I insulted a journalist.
"People don't know us. They read the papers, they watch the TV and if they hear that 'him, he's a moron,' that obviously leads to a negative connection with the public
"I can seem arrogant because I want to be sure of myself. If you don't believe in yourself, no one will do it for you. But if the only thing you hear is criticism then inevitably, in your head, that bothers you.
"I am annoyed to not be loved in my own country. Last season, everything went wrong.
"There was first Euro 2012 where I have been killed. I came back to my club where I had problems too.
"It was just a negative series. You have to be strong to get through it.
